I’m Bobby Charles, and I’m running for Governor of Maine because I believe we can do better—safer streets, lower taxes, stronger schools, and a government that works for you, not against you.
I grew up in Wayne, Maine. My mother was a public school teacher. From her—and from the World War II veterans who mentored me—I learned about sacrifice, service, and what it means to be part of something bigger than yourself. Those values carried me from Maranacook High School to Dartmouth, Oxford, and Columbia Law—not to leave Maine behind, but to return better prepared to serve it.
I’ve spent my life protecting our nation and serving our communities. My public service began in the Reagan White House. I then led global counter-narcotics operations, worked with allies to dismantle global drug cartels, and helped secure America’s borders from lethal threats.
After the 9/11 attacks, I volunteered for active duty and served as a Naval Intelligence Officer, working to defend our country. That moment cemented my commitment to the values we hold dear: courage, duty, and resolve in the face of adversity.
But while I’ve served around the world, my heart has always been here in Maine. No matter where duty took me, I returned home every year to be with my mother, siblings, and lifelong friends.
Today, our state is in crisis. Record overdose deaths, rising violent crime, and economic stagnation are threatening the Maine we know and love.
Janet Mills doubled the state budget, raised taxes, and gutted law enforcement. Her and Augusta Democrats let politics infect our schools and abandoned working families.
Bobby Charles is committed to building a safer, stronger Maine. As governor, he will fight to reduce crime, enforce common-sense policies on homelessness, cut burdensome taxes, and hold government accountable. He believes in protecting Maine’s communities, improving education, and ensuring economic opportunities for every hardworking citizen. Bobby Charles will always put Maine families first.
Augusta insider Garrett Mason’s votes against public safety funding, arguing they show misplaced priorities at a time of rising crime, and pledged that as governor he would put public safety first by backing law enforcement, demanding accountability, and taking a tougher stance on crime.
Having spent the better part of a week along Maine’s 611-mile Northern Border, connecting with law enforcement near crossings, my essential readout is that deterrence matters, law enforcement needs our support, officers seldom complain, but without their courage and commitment, we would be overrun.

Bottom line: Drug and human trafficking, plus flow-down crime, are tied to illegal immigration. Public safety is a priority. Illegals victimize Blue State citizens, including Mainers. We need to get them out. To do that, we need new leadership.
President Trump slammed the door on illegal immigration – and fentanyl trafficking – at our southern border, something never done before. The flipside is that northern states, like Maine, must be ready.
Thomas Jefferson, in 1801, became America’s 3rd president. Exactly 25 years earlier, young Jefferson penned the Declaration of Independence. This week exactly – in 1776 – he was seated in the Virginia House of Delegates, age 33. He was a man of courage and friendship.
The national ACLU and Maine ACLU are making another crazy argument, imagine that? They have literally, on film and in writing, begun to argue that “illegal aliens” are not “illegal,” and so they should not be apprehended by ICE or any State government, nor deported. Really?
Bottom line: Lewiston needs help, focus, dramatic federal and state support, a makeover based on real consequences, hard targets, more law enforcement resources, accountable and effective treatment, and realistic infrastructure. Ugly trends do not reverse themselves; they require leadership. Maine badly needs help.

We saw 10,000 overdoses last year, any of which could be fatal. While Naloxone reverses an overdose, it is not treatment.
