I’m Bobby Charles, and I’m running for Governor of Maine because I believe we can do better—safer streets, lower taxes, stronger schools, and a government that works for you, not against you.
I grew up in Wayne, Maine. My mother was a public school teacher, raising us on $12,000 a year. From her—and from the World War II veterans who mentored me—I learned about sacrifice, service, and what it means to be part of something bigger than yourself. Those values carried me from Maranacook High School to Dartmouth, Oxford, and Columbia Law—not to leave Maine behind, but to return better prepared to serve it.
I’ve spent my life protecting our nation and serving our communities. My public service began in the Reagan White House and later continued as Chief Counsel to the U.S. House National Security Subcommittee, where I helped oversee critical defense, intelligence, and homeland security policy. I then served as Assistant Secretary of State under Secretary Colin Powell, where I led global counter-narcotics operations, worked with allies to dismantle global drug cartels, and helped secure America’s borders from lethal threats.
After the 9/11 attacks, I volunteered for active duty and served as a Naval Intelligence Officer, working to defend our country. That moment cemented my commitment to the values we hold dear: courage, duty, and resolve in the face of adversity.
But while I’ve served around the world, my heart has always been here in Maine.
Today, our state is in crisis. Record overdose deaths, rising violent crime, and economic stagnation are threatening the Maine we know and love.
Janet Mills doubled the state budget, raised taxes, and gutted law enforcement. Her and Augusta Democrats let politics infect our schools and abandoned working families.
As your Governor:
I’ll fight to end the drug epidemic and crackdown on crime by targeting traffickers, supporting our troopers, and standing with law enforcement.
I’ll cut wasteful spending and taxes, protect seniors’ pensions and prescription benefits, and make Maine affordable again.
I’ll restore discipline and excellence in education—bringing back math, reading, and life skills while removing woke politics from the classroom.
I’ll end Janet Mills’ woke nonsense and protect parental rights, fairness in girls’ sports, and the safety of our schools.
This campaign isn’t about me—it’s about Maine. It’s about every hardworking family, every small business, every parent, student, and senior who wants to believe in this state again.
